Hans is a Principal Engineer within the Mitton ElectroNet’s Transmission Team and has a wide range of experience in the Transmission & Distribution industries. Hans undertakes project management, primary, secondary and communications design with specialist knowledge in power system protection. A qualified Electrical Engineer with his Masters in Electrical Power and Energy Systems, Hans possesses a robust experiential background of more than two decades in electrical system design, power system protection, substation automation, automatic analysis systems and automatic control systems.
From 2007 to 2018 Hans performed power system fault studies and calculated protection settings for dozens of extra high voltage (220kV – 765kV) transmission lines in the Eskom Transmission system in South Africa, including lines with series capacitors in various configurations. Hans has contributed to many protection relay setting standard templates in Eskom Transmission, with a view to standardising setting selections.
Hans has also undertaken and supervised a few complex operational information technology projects from concept to commissioning, such as an automatic fault analysis system for Eskom’s National Control and System Operator and rolling out of a protection relay setting database for Eskom’s Transmission division.
